How a stump is ground out
Grinding takes the stump out from the top down. A cutting wheel works across the face of it, turning stump and surface roots into chip, and it keeps going below ground level so nothing is left standing proud of the lawn. How far down depends on what is going over the top afterwards. Turf needs less depth than a patio or a replanted tree. Timberwood runs a range of grinders, from a machine narrow enough for a side gate up to larger ones for big stumps on open ground.
Getting a grinder into a back garden
The question with most stumps is not the stump, it is the route to it. A grinder that cannot get past the gate is no use, which is why the smallest machine in the fleet passes through a 25 inch gap. That covers most side alleys, back gates and gaps between a house and a fence. Where there is more room, a larger grinder does the same work faster. Send the width of the stump and a photo of the access route and we can tell you which machine the job needs before anyone visits.
